Barbell Glute Bridge

The barbell glute bridge drives your hips up from the floor: glutes lead, hamstrings help.

Setup

Sit on the floor, roll the bar over your hips and pad it. Lie back, knees bent, feet flat at hip width, heels not far from your butt.

Execution

  1. Sit on the floor, roll the bar over your hips, and lie back, shoulder blades on the floor, knees bent — starting position.
  2. Exhale, drive through your heels, and extend your hips fully.
  3. Inhale and lower the bar back down slowly.

Common mistakes

  • Arching your lower back at the top — the glutes lift, ribs down, pelvis tucked.
  • Feet too far out — the hamstrings take over; bring your heels closer.
  • Knees flaring or caving — keep them over your feet.
  • No pause at the top — hold a second and squeeze your glutes.
